Annoying DVD crappery
We have in the past 2 months acquired three(3) copies of Peep Show 3 on DVD. None of them will play, either on my PS2 or my laptop DVD player. We don't have a proper DVD player so I have no idea whether they would work on that.

Anyway: does anyone know whether this is due to me trying to play them on something other than a dedicated DVD player? Any idea what might be wrong? The problem is that they get stuck on the first (menu) page, with the music kinda flickering on and off.

Try using the trial copy of DVD Region Free: http://www.dvdidle.com/download.htm?s=region

It's got various copy-protection handling routines that might fix your problem

I had the same issue trying to play the first series of Coupling, but I think that was the other way round, in as much as IIRC I could play it on my laptop, but not on my DVD player.

Bastards!

What a coincidence, I had the exact same problem with Peep Show 3 on DVD, it must have been a faulty batch or something. Mine would not play on anything, computers, DVD players etc., but the replacement plays just fine.

I win... I bought five... thats 5... copies of 8 Mile.

I then waited 2 years or so. Bought a sixth and on the same machine it plays no problem.

I concluded it was the batch.

You bought six copies of 8 Mile? It was pretty good, but not that good! ;)

My DVD of the first series of Coupling plays fine on my standalone DVD player, maybe I was lucky. I once had problems with an Orbital DVD that wouldn't get past the intro screen (unless you had a mouse). And I had trouble ripping... I mean playing one of the DVDs from a Cold Feet box set, and one of the DVDs from a Lizzie McGuire box set *blush*.

It seems crazy that these dodgy batches aren't caught sooner and replaced. I guess they hope people won't notice/will put up with it.
